LCF's Haiti Mission

How LCF Got Involved in Building
and Supporting an Orphanage in Haiti

LCF became involved with orphans in Haiti as a result of God bringing two visions of ministry together. The first vision was birthed out of Pastor Kim May’s desire to involve LCF in a ministry to the poor and needy. As he was praying for direction, God brought Stacey and Dana Evans to LCF. Stacey had been on a trip to Haiti with C3 Missions (now known as The Global Orphan Project) and brought the idea of ministering to orphans to Kim. It seemed to fit with what God had laid on Kim’s heart so he met with the founder of C3—Mike Fox. Kim was so impressed with Mike’s passion and vision for looking after orphans that he took the idea to the LCF Leadership Team to pray about it. After several months of prayer and dialogue, they decided to bring it to the church. The church embraced the idea and sent a check to C3 to start building an orphanage that would house thirty kids. LCF became the first church working under C3 Missions to build an orphanage and send teams to minister to orphans.

Some Reasons Why LCF has Chosen
to Minister to Orphans in Haiti

The first reason LCF became involved in building and supporting an orphanage in Haiti was because we got to, as a community of faith, put into practice the kind of “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless . . . to look after orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27). Since God is a helper (Psalm 10:14), defender (Psalm 10:18), and father to the fatherless (Psalm 68:5), we reflect God’s love and care for orphans in this ministry.
Another reason we are involved in this ministry to orphans is because these orphanages are the central part of a “cluster” (school, church, orphanage, business, and sometimes a medical clinic), which is having a transforming effect upon the community around them. These clusters bring light into a dark situation, and hope into seemingly hopeless circumstances. God is using the church in the midst of the cluster to reach people for Jesus Christ. We have heard testimonies of how children, adults, and local voodoo witch doctors have become followers of Jesus Christ due to the faithful proclamation of the gospel message by the Pastors of these churches. We are excited to be a part of something that is eternally impacting the lives of the men, women, and children of Haiti .
Lastly, this ministry to Haiti helps to connect the people of LCF to the heart of God and each other in a deeply meaningful and life-changing way. The first team of ten adults who went to Haiti in May 2008 can all testify to this. This is not the main reason for our involvement in this ministry, but it naturally occurs when God’s people are obedient in practicing a religion that He accepts as pure and faultless.
We look forward to sending more teams to Haiti to love on the fatherless and motherless, and seeing and hearing how God is using these clusters to advance His kingdom in the third world country of Haiti.
