Bev MayBev May – Executive Assistant

bev@lcfliberty.org

I grew up in Gladstone, Missouri in a large happy family with parents who love the Lord and are loved by many in this area – Bob & Betty Raines. I’ve enjoyed following Jesus from the age of 7 when I gave my life to him in a Sunday morning service at Winnwood Baptist Church in Kansas City North. I met my husband, Kim May, my first semester at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa. We were married the following summer at Winnwood and drove the next day to begin ministry at a small church in Tulsa. The next year when Kim began seminary in California, I worked to put him through. Our 34+ years of marriage have been filled with ministry adventures around the United States, with the greatest adventure beginning in June of 1986 when we started Liberty Christian Fellowship in our home in Liberty, Missouri.

We have three adult children: Micah, Joelle, Bethany, and Bethany’s husband, DJ. We love hanging out as a family, playing tennis, watching movies, eating and laughing! Besides hanging out with family, it’s fun and relaxing for me to read historical Christian novels, eat Mexican food, and have a frappucino. If I could live anywhere, it would be on or near a beach, preferably on the gulf. But I love our church so much, it would have to move with us! So I guess we’ll have to stay in the cold winters of the Midwest and travel to a beach whenever possible!

Besides home with my husband and near my kids and LCF, my next favorite place to be is in St. Louis du Sud, Haiti! I’ve grown to deeply love and appreciate the children there and the people of Haiti. It’s a gentle, relaxed culture, who seem to have a much better handle on gratitude and perspective than we do as Americans, in spite of, or maybe because of, their extreme lack of material wealth and comfort. They view themselves as very blessed! And I have to agree!

I’ve volunteered and/or worked for LCF in many different capacities since it began in 1986. My primary ministry (and job now) is to support my husband as the Senior Pastor of the church. I’ve also served as a member of the Leadership Team since 1986, and consider it a great privilege to be one of the leaders and nurturers of such an incredible body of believers! In my position of Executive Assistant, I also maintain the people information database for LCF and enjoy connecting people to others in small groups and ministries whenever possible.

In 5-10 years I see myself right where I am now, with maybe the extra blessing of another son-in-law and daughter-in-law and multiple grandchildren, and more getaways to the beach! I can’t imagine a life being richer than one where I get to love God, love my family, love others, and overall, just love life!

Bette Davis – Office Manager

Our family started attending LCF in 1990. Coming out of a difficult church situation, we quickly knew that LCF was exactly where God wanted us to land. It’s been an amazing journey ever since, one filled with spiritual growth, wonderful friendships, and meaningful ministry opportunities.

I started working at LCF in the capacity of Office Manager in 2005. Prior to this job, I worked 17 years as Office Manager at a law firm in downtown Kansas City. I love my five minute commute to the LCF offices! My job responsibilities at the church actually mirror very closely what I did at the law firm. I handle the finances, human resources duties and office administration. I love many aspects of my job, but probably the thing I most appreciate is working alongside such amazing people who are truly devoted to serving our Lord.

My husband and I currently serve together in a couple of different capacities at LCF. We lead the annual Spiritual Gifts Workshop at LCF and have done so since 1994. Both us of find it a great joy and privilege to help a person discover how God has made them and then see them plug into a ministry which is both fruitful and life-giving! We have served together since 2000 on LCF’s Leadership Team as well. I am also on the Personnel Team and the Jehovah Jireh Ministry team (LCF’s benevolence ministry).

My husband Bill and I have two adult children, Jenny and Luke. Both are married and live close to one another in northwest Arkansas. Jenny and her husband are parents to our two adorable grandchildren, Ella and Haddie!

In my free time, I especially enjoy spending time with my husband, reading Christian fiction, and working out on Wii Fit Plus!

Karen HockmanKaren Hockman – Church Administrator

There is no better place in the world to work! It’s a privilege serving God and people here at LCF.

We started attending LCF in 1992 and have found it a comfortable church home for us ever since. I’ve had the privilege of being a small group leader, MOPS (Mother of Preschoolers) mentor, and served in youth ministry. In 1999, I accepted the position of Church Administrator and have been serving in this capacity ever since.

Core to my role is overseeing the buildings and property, computer and communications systems, and being the go-to person for ministry volunteers. As LCF has grown, so has the responsibility of this position. In just a few short years we’ve doubled our facilities to over 20,000 square feet. Late 2007, we completed the addition of offices on the main church property next to the church building helping to make the church grounds feel more like a campus. I also manage the Church House, what was once a single family residence adjoining the church property to the south has now become additional space for classrooms and other group meetings.

Prior to taking on the role of Church Administrator, I spent over 10 years in various positions within the healthcare and insurance industries.

In my free time, I enjoy cooking, needlework of all types, reading, camping, gardening, and still find time for my four married children and eleven grandchildren. My husband, Skip, and I live in Excelsior Springs. We’ve been married since 1971.
